The Mega Lobster data center project in Fortaleza, a new hub for data connectivity.
Tecto Data Centers is nearing completion on its Mega Lobster data center project in Fortaleza, Ceará. With a budget of 550 million reais, this facility will enhance data connectivity in Latin America, featuring advanced cooling systems and a capacity of 20 megawatts. The project aims to create 450 jobs and emphasizes sustainability by incorporating renewable energy sources. As part of Tecto’s broader investment strategy, the Mega Lobster will reflect the growing demand for data infrastructure in the region.
Tecto Data Centers, a subsidiary of V.tal, is moving forward with its _Mega Lobster_ data center project in Fortaleza, Ceará. With a construction budget estimated at 550 million reais (approximately _US$100 million_), this ambitious project highlights the increasing demand for data services and infrastructure in the region. Mega Lobster represents Tecto’s third data center in Fortaleza and its sixth in Latin America.
The construction of the Mega Lobster facility is nearly complete, and Tecto expects to activate the site by the end of the year. One of the significant milestones achieved in July was the installation of four chillers, which are essential for the cooling system. Maintaining thermal control in high-density computing environments is crucial, as data centers generate substantial heat during operation.
Mega Lobster is designed to offer a total projected capacity of 20 megawatts (MW), although it will begin operations at a reduced capacity initially. This facility will consist of 10 data halls and will employ a closed-loop water system, contributing to its sustainability goals. Tecto Data Centers is committed to utilizing renewable energy sources for powering all its operations and has made agreements with Atlas Renewable and Atiaia Renováveis to supply solar energy for its facilities.
The Mega Lobster project is not only a significant investment in technology but also a catalyst for local job creation. Approximately 450 direct jobs are expected to be generated during the construction phase, providing a boost to the local economy. The facility’s integration with V.tal’s robust fiber network and its connection to the central traffic exchange point in Ceará will enhance connectivity for various telecom and cloud service providers.
Tecto’s investment in the Mega Lobster project is part of a larger _US$1 billion_ capital expenditure plan aimed at expanding data center capabilities throughout Brazil and Latin America. In addition to the Mega Lobster, Tecto is also initiating a new data center project in Porto Alegre. This facility will connect to a new submarine cable branch developed in collaboration with Meta. Initially planned for a flood-prone area, the Porto Alegre project has been relocated to a safer site, demonstrating Tecto’s commitment to operational safety.
In addition to ongoing projects, Tecto is planning a significant 200 MW data center campus in Santana do Parnaíba, São Paulo, with phased capacity rollout anticipated by December 2032. This planned campus further emphasizes Tecto’s strategic focus on improving connectivity across its facilities and supporting various telecom and cloud service providers.
Tecto Data Centers’ ongoing expansion reflects a dedication to both _sustainability_ and digital infrastructure development in Brazil. The robustness of the Brazilian power grid supports the interconnected consumption of energy among multiple locations, enhancing the overall efficiency of operations. The Mega Lobster project stands as a testament to this commitment, providing a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the needs of a growing digital landscape while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
