Various proposals suggest utilizing New York City’s public golf courses and land owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to build much-needed units.

Comptroller Brad Lander proposes the construction of 50,000 new units on four public golf courses. Other discussions among candidates include the possibility of suspending the lengthy land use review process that has historically hampered swift housing development and funneling structural changes within the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

In a bid to appeal to tenants, Mamdani has pledged to appoint a board that would maintain a rent freeze during his potential tenure.
