The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government is transforming a retail space into an innovative educational facility in Dubai’s City Walk. Partnering with JLL, the institution aims to create a hub for governance and public policy education, integrating modern design and sustainability into its planning. The project includes versatile training rooms, enhanced community spaces, and a commitment to environmentally responsible practices, setting a new standard for educational environments in the region.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) is undergoing a remarkable transformation, thanks to a collaborative effort with JLL. This project represents a forward-thinking approach to education and governance in the Arab world, as MBRSG becomes the centerpiece for innovative learning and public policy understanding.
Founded in 2005 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, MBRSG aims to redefine how governance and public policy are taught and understood in the region. This transformation signifies more than just a physical change; it embodies MBRSG’s goal of fostering community engagement, collaboration, and modern educational practices relating to governance.
Located in City Walk Dubai, MBRSG’s new campus is set within a 17,343 sqft space that was previously utilized as a retail area. JLL’s Agency team played a vital role in identifying and acquiring this location, marking an essential step towards providing a unique educational environment.
The collaboration entails a comprehensive range of services from JLL, including interior design, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) solutions, project management, and cost management for both the construction and the fit-out phases. This thorough approach ensures that each aspect of the transformation meets the highest standards.
The new facility integrates biophilic design principles, aiming to create a soothing yet stimulating environment that enhances learning and interaction. The layout includes a variety of flexible training rooms, intimate classrooms, an innovative library, and advanced conference facilities that cater to different educational needs. Moreover, the campus is designed with staff areas and inviting social spaces to encourage connection among students and educators.
Additional features of the new campus encompass over 40 multipurpose office spaces, dedicated meeting rooms, a recording studio, a café, and a large event terrace that merges indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly. This thoughtful integration aims to enhance the learning experience by promoting creativity and collaboration.
Sustainability is a priority in this transformation. Energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been installed, substantially reducing water and energy consumption. Furthermore, JLL has selected sustainable materials for the fit-out process, aligning the project with environmentally friendly practices and minimizing its ecological footprint.
This project serves as an exemplary model of innovative space utilization, creating an ecosystem that supports learning, collaboration, and community involvement. By investing in such a progressive facility, MBRSG reinforces its mission to cultivate leaders in governance and public affairs.
The insights and expertise provided by JLL have been crucial in enabling MBRSG to make informed choices concerning costs, timelines, and the long-term vision for their new facility. By maintaining a clear focus on project goals, the partnership has ensured the successful delivery of MBRSG’s new campus, meeting strict quality standards while adhering to budget constraints and maintaining the scheduled timelines.
As the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government prepares to unveil its transformed campus, it stands as a testament to innovative design and educational excellence. This endeavor not only enhances the institution’s functionality but also establishes it as a benchmark for future educational facilities in the region, reflecting a commitment to fostering leadership and governance in the Arab world.
