Construction site for the 600 South Underpass project.
Logan City will hold a Contractor Open House to discuss the 600 South Underpass Project. Attendees can learn about construction schedules and traffic management. The meeting will take place at Logan City Hall and will offer community members a platform to ask questions and express concerns regarding the project. The underpass aims to enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity in the area, with construction expected to commence soon.
Logan City officials are set to hold a “Contractor Open House” on Tuesday, August 12, to provide vital information regarding the upcoming 600 South Underpass Project. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Logan City Hall, located at 290 North, 100 West in downtown Logan.
This open house is being organized on behalf of the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and its partnering organizations. Business and property owners in the area are encouraged to attend and pose any questions they may have concerning construction schedules and traffic management along Main Street. This initiative aims to address community concerns and keep residents informed as the project takes shape.
The 600 South Underpass Project will involve the installation of a pedestrian underpass trail culvert at 600 South, conveniently located next to the US-89 Bridge on Main Street. Local officials have indicated that construction is expected to commence as early as September 1 and will extend through June 2026.
During the entirety of the construction phase, access to 600 South at Main Street will remain closed. Most of the construction activities will be conducted during the day, from Monday to Friday, with some operations shifting to evenings and weekends as necessary. Furthermore, there will be a seasonal break planned from December 2025 to March 2026, although this timeframe may adjust due to weather conditions and material availability.
Motorists should prepare for traffic disruptions as project impacts are expected to escalate in 2025. This may include temporary closures of shoulders, pedestrian sidewalks, and outside lanes. By 2026, ongoing construction work could require variable lane closures, potentially reducing traffic to just one lane in each direction. During peak traffic hours, it is likely that delays will average between 5 to 15 minutes.
UDOT recommends commuters utilize 1000 West and 200 North as alternative routes to navigate around the construction zone more efficiently. Despite the work taking place, access to intersections between 500 South and 700 South will remain open; however, some dedicated turn lanes may experience restrictions.
Additionally, nighttime road closures will be necessary between 500 South and 700 South in order to facilitate the transport of heavy equipment and materials. Residents and motorists will be updated regarding the timing of these closures through the project’s dedicated website, along with email updates, social media notifications, and text messages.
The 600 South Underpass Project is viewed by city officials as essential for enhancing connectivity and safety for pedestrians, runners, and cyclists in the area. The project, valued at approximately $8 million, aims to link existing trail systems that currently stretch across Main Street.
The proposed underpass will feature a 10-foot-wide shared-use path, significantly improving the connections between trails on either side of Main Street. Once completed, this underpass is expected to transform the movement and safety of non-motorized users crossing this busy roadway, creating a more accessible environment for everyone.
As the project approaches its start date, residents are urged to attend the open house to gather relevant information and stay informed about developments that will impact their daily lives.
